I watch the sun rise and it is beautiful.
I stand just so, here in the exact spot I know is the most impressive viewing point. This is the first time I have seen it rise between the glass and crystal towers and it is just as glorious as the hundreds of times I know it was before.
A man steps into place beside me. I have never met John Travis before, but I know that both he and his wife had planned to be here. I have never met Katey Travis but I know that she had to stay home to take care of their two children. I know that Jack has just started teething and that Katey thinks Mary has been feeling neglected.
John nods to me with a forced smile. I know that he wants to stand exactly where I am and is resentful that he has to settle for a less impressive sunrise. He has never met me but he knows that I have been waiting in this position for an hour. He knows that I am smug about my patience paying off.
As I look at him the smile melts from my face. I realise I do not know who this man is.
